Preparing Your Vehicle for Spring in Ontario

Winter’s almost over so its time to get ready for the season ahead
After months of cold, salt, and slush, your vehicle deserves a little attention before spring driving begins. A few simple maintenance steps can protect your car, improve fuel efficiency, and prevent costly repairs later.
1. Check your tires and alignment
Winter driving can wear tires unevenly and throw off alignment. Have your tires inspected for tread depth and damage, and switch back to all-season tires when temperatures stay above 7°C. A spring alignment ensures your steering and suspension are in top shape after winter’s rough roads.
2. Replace worn wiper blades and refill washer fluid
Salt spray and road grime can ruin visibility. Swap your winter wipers for fresh ones and fill up with a washer fluid rated for spring temperatures.
3. Test your battery
Cold weather weakens batteries. Have yours tested to make sure it can handle the warmer months ahead, especially if it’s more than three years old.
4. Wash away winter salt
A thorough wash, including the undercarriage, removes corrosive salt buildup that can cause rust.
5. Check your fluids and filters
Oil, coolant, brake, and transmission fluids all work harder in winter. Spring is the ideal time for an oil change and a full inspection.
